I've been away for awhile. Sorry, I thought PETA had done more than enough to ever shock and amaze me again. Fool that I am, I never considered the creativity of the truly empty and shameless minds that haunt their headquarters in downtown loonytoons.

I now give you this truly amazing bit of tasteless PETA porn, courtesy of another blogger:

We’ve all enjoyed a few chuckles at the expense of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals organization.

Whether altering the acronym (people eating tasty animals or poorly educated teen activists) or staring wild-eyed while one of its ‘compassionate members’ throws fake blood on fur-wearers or disrupts a fashion show, the activities of this animal rights group are funnier than the last ten years of Saturday Night Live.

Now, following brilliant marketing strategies such as the ad campaign that compared the treatment of animals in slaughterhouses to a recent murder on a Canadian bus or the “Your Daddy and Your Mommy Kill Animals” comic books, PETA has approached Ben & Jerry’s about replacing the cow’s milk in their ice cream with breast milk.

In a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, PETA’s executive vice president, Tracy Reiman, notes that, “The breast is best,” and cheerfully exclaims that “[your] customers and cows would reap the benefits” of the switch.

“Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health,” Reiman writes. “Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer.”

And as we all know, breast milk – thus far – has only been linked to newborn babies and ‘fetish’ category porn films.

Ms. Reiman points to the Swiss restaurant, Storchen, which has recently unveiled a menu that features soups, stews and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk that is procured by human donors.

If these donors are the same folks I see in line outside the local bloodbank, I can confidently say that I’ll never eat ice cream (or Swiss chocolate) again.

When you're approached by PETA for funding or harrassed by them at some event, please just say NO! We must do all we can to stop the insanity.

PETA's advertisement crossed 'visible' line

On my morning commute, I heard a news story about PETA and an ad that they were planning on running in the Portage Daily Graphic in regards to the brutal and senseless slaying of Tim McLean. The news item was so disturbing that I assumed that the story must be wrong -- so I visited PETA's website and lo and behold it is true. It is PETA's intention to run an ad in the very community directly affected by this tragedy -- "comparing the similarities between this gruesome bus butchering and the acts of cruelty and killing performed every day by the meat industry."

I was so outraged that I wrote the following letter to PETA:

PETA -- First and foremost, let me say that I generally have good thoughts when I think of your group. I know that one of your major premises is to incite an overreaction in your campaigns in order to draw attention (whether it be good or bad).

However, with that being said, I would like to say that you have crossed a very visible line in your ad Cannibalistic Attack on Greyhound Bus. As a slightly Americanized Canadian citizen (I live across the river from Detroit), I am becoming desensitized to mindless violence due to overexposure, however, when this horrific story broke, even I was shocked to the very core of my being -- especially with the act occurring on my home turf of Canada.

I cannot fathom under what circumstance this "brainchild" of an ad was born. How could you be so insensitive to the community and to the families of the victims?

I don't care what kind of message you are trying to send, you have gone too far with this one act of insensitivity -- apparently you need training on how to curb cruelty to humans.

Jenna Jameson, one of the most famous porn stars in the world and certainly someone who could be called 'sexually active,' is pimping for PETA again. Her newest ad, just unveiled along with most of the rest of her, claims that to much sex might not be a good thing.

Except maybe if she's doing it for cold, hard cash?

It's the latest in a long line of tasteless PETA porn ads starring soft core, hard core and 'B' list actresses in desperate need of some cheap publicity.

Bottom line with those snickering little boys at PETA - exploiting or abusing animals is bad; exploiting or abusing women is good. Especially is it make for a great dorm room poster.

good evening! here's legendary drag queen (and blogger!) lady bunny (a sassy staple on the NYC scene) unveiling a brand new billboard in manhattan's soho neighborhood (very close to my old apartment on grand & thompson) featuring her bad self and PETA - both saying no to kentucky fried chicken (along with pamela anderson) which i haven't personally ate in years and i highly doubt i'll be going there anytime soon...that nasty dead chicken hanging out of colonel sanders' bucket is a complete turn-off (read more about KFC's policy of cruelty) i do love fried chicken but certainly not at the expense of cruelty towards animals - i swear i could become a vegetarian if it wasn't for bacon - hands down the best thing to ever come off a pig! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo

Get real, PETA.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has once again managed to turn a noble ideal -- that animals should not be treated cruelly for human benefit -- into a sick joke.

In its usual inimitable style of shoot-first-and-ask-questions-never, the animal-rights group has set its sights on Mona Rutger and her Back to the Wild wildlife rehabilitation center near Castalia.

Rutger's alleged act of cruelty was to display, for a few minutes, a bald eagle at a Kent State University athletic event.

The eagle, nicknamed Beauty, can't go back to the wild because it's been left blind by West Nile Virus. So the Back to the Wild staff cares for it -- with help, we're told, from Kent State -- and occasionally exhibits it as part of the center's educational displays.

Bad Mona, says PETA.

Never mind Rutger does more for animals by accident than PETA does in a year's worth of publicity stunts, and has received national recognition for it. PETA's flack tells us he wasn't familiar with all that.

What's sad about this, though, is not the effect on Back to the Wild, which will easily weather PETA's hissy fit. What's sad is that PETA, more blinded than Beauty by its rigid ideology, took a shot at someone it should regard as an ally.

Maybe PETA was just after the publicity. Maybe PETA even believes its own news releases; "More's the pity," as Hawkeye Pierce would say. Either way, it's once again managed to bury the cause it purportedly champions under the sick joke the organization has become.

Editor's note: PETA seems to have adopted a very Stalinesque method of protecting wildlife. The eagle is lucky it didn't land in Virginia where PETA regularly 'saves' over 90% of the animals that fall into their hands by killing them.

I know we've debated these ads before, so I'll quote from commenter GottaBeMe, who nicely summed up the issue (in a previous PETA thread):

But again, the issue for me is that although PETA has apparently used naked men in a tiny number of their ads (which I've never seen and got nowhere near as much press as the naked women) is the fact that they have long used the objectification of women to attract attention to their point.

I'm not saying that the women who get naked for PETA are being exploited. I'm saying that PETA is promoting and using the objectification of women as sexual objects to get attention for their cause, which has nothing to do with sex. The fact that they continually use young, naked women to get attention for their cause shows who their target audience is: men.

I am a committed vegetarian and yet I will not join Peta for this very reason. I don't believe in treating women like a piece of meat in order to get others to stop eating meat. I've elaborated on this in more detail here in response to other initiatives of Peta involving near-naked women.

Then they should be using half naked men as much as they seem to use women. The other meat wrapped intern was a guy but as GottaBeMe pointed out, almost 90% of their ads feature naked women. And much like that one vegan strip joint we discussed a while ago it seems they feel using T&A will entice those reluctant men over to their side.

PETA is a horrible organization in general. They think that owning pets is animal abuse; they think that animal shelters are abusive places... and yet they kill 85% of the animals they take in. Details here.
Even if PETA were a worthy cause, their constant use of naked women is idiotic because while these tactics get public attention, they don't draw attention to the actual issues, so people don't stay interested.

They're also against any killing of animals while they slaughter most of the animals they claim to "save." Rochester, Minn. - An edgy new PETA ad, which shows a hooded Ku Klux Klan member making himself right at home at a meeting of the American Kennel Club (AKC)--a dog registry that only accepts purebreds--has been rejected by TV stations serving the Rochester area. Animal shelters are struggling to cope with the companion animal overpopulation crisis. (Editor’s comment: They could follow PETA’s lead and just kill them all. See my previous post) PETA had hoped to run the ad in Rochester during a dog show--where breeding is promoted despite the deaths of dogs in animal shelters--on May 29 and 30 that is being hosted by the AKC. Several area TV stations rejected the controversial ad, but it was accepted for airing on stations in Charlotte, N.C.

The 30-second spot begins as a Klansman walks into an American Kennel Club (AKC) meeting and is told that he's in the wrong place. After he gets the meeting's speaker to concede that both groups believe in the "sanctity of pure bloodlines" and a "master race"--or "master pedigree"--he declares, "I'll fit right in here," and takes a seat. The ad concludes with the message "All dogs are created equal."

PETA condemns the AKC as irresponsible because it discriminates against mixed-breed dogs, promotes dog breeding, and spurs people to buy purebreds from breeders and pet stores while animal shelters overflow with unwanted mixed-breed dogs who desperately need homes. Each year, approximately 6 to 8 million unwanted animals end up in animal shelters nationwide.

"People who are offended by the KKK's obsession with pure bloodlines should also be offended by the AKC's contempt for wonderful mutts who need homes," says PETA Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. "The AKC opposes spay-and-neuter laws that would save the lives of hundreds of thousands of animals."

Why is "fixing" kitties so important? The statistics are staggering: One unspayed female cat can produce 36 cats in just one and a half years, and an unneutered male can father limitless litters of kittens. Every year, millions of unwanted animals are dumped at severely crowded animal shelters, where most are put to death. Others are casually passed around from one temporary home to the next or dumped on the roadside. Many unwanted cats and dogs who don't make it to animal shelters are abandoned and left to fend for themselves on the streets, where they are often subjected to cruelty and suffer from starvation, diseases, or injuries. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a group that complains bitterly when animals die accidentally in horse races or intentionally in slaughterhouses, killed more than 90 percent of the adoptable animals in its care during 2007.

Last year, PETA wrangled with the Virginia government for nine months before its 2006 records were finally made public. In a cynical bid to hide the outrageous percentage of animals that wind up in their giant walk-in freezer, PETA's leaders tried to lump the pets they spayed or neutered in with those they took in for more than an hour. That squabbling continues, but this year we decided not to wait for the dust to settle.

Instead, with the help of Virginia's public records law, we did a little digging. Responding to our formal legal request, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) has released PETA's 2007 "Animal Record" report. Although VDACS itself has still not relased this report, we're making it available to the general public.

PETA claims to be dedicated to protecting animals and treating them "ethically"—it’s right there in the group’s name. But killing animals that could otherwise be placed in adoptive homes isn’t terribly ethical, especially for a group whose $30 million annual income is more than enough to do the right thing instead.

In comparison, the Virginia Beach SPCA, right down the road from PETA’s Norfolk headquarters, managed to adopt out almost 70% of the animals in its care last year. And it did it on a relative shoestring budget.

Adding PETA's 2007 numbers to the mix, we can now document that the group has put down over 19,200 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. While it's possible that some of these animals were too broken or sick to be rehabilitated, humane societies in Virginia managed to save an average of nearly 65 percent of their animals in 2007. PETA found adoptive homes for less than 1 percent.

Please spay or neuter your animals. PETA is running out of bullets for bunnies, cyanide for cats, drugs for dogs and the ethical high ground.

PETA’s Pet Death Toll Grows Again

When the good folks at PETA aren't busy talking "B" list actresses into doffing their duds for the cause, they're slaughtering thousands of pets - then attacking the animal ag industry for abusing a few hundred head of cattle and a flock of chickens. Here's a just-published news story on the sins of the self-righteous:

A week ago in an online feature, Newsweek explored the bizarre irony -- or hypocrisy, if you see things the way we do -- of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as a wholesale executioner of dogs, cats, and other “companion animals.” The story was originally titled “PETA Kills Pets,” but later quietly re-titled to a milder “PETA and Euthanasia.” Still, Newsweek deserves some credit for acknowledging that PETA “has practiced euthanasia for years. Since 1998 PETA has killed more than 17,000 animals, nearly 85 percent of all those it has rescued.” Today that death toll increases to more than 19,200.

Last year, PETA’s “Animal Record” report for 2006 (containing its official “kill” numbers) didn’t show up on the website of Virginia’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) until nine months after it was supposed to. So this year, we pressed the issue. And in response to our written public-records request, VDACS delivered the goods. PETA’s 2007 “Animal Record” still isn’t available online through the Virginia government, but we’re making it available today at PetaKillsAnimals.com.

Here’s what the report shows. Not including the animals PETA spayed and neutered, the group had possession of 1,997 dogs, cats, and other “companion animals” in 2007. And PETA -- which professes a belief that animals should never be slaughtered for food, used for medical research, or killed for clothing, nonetheless put 90.9 percent of them to death at its Norfolk, VA headquarters. And despite its official status as a “humane society” and a pet “releasing agency” in Virginia, PETA found adoptive homes for only 17 animals all year. Just 17.

No-kill animal sheltering crusader Nathan Winograd told Newsweek something worth remembering the next time you receive a solicitation letter from PETA, or from its ideological brother, the misnamed Humane Society of the United States: “With the resources at their disposal, PETA and the Humane Society of the U.S. could become no-kill in no time. Instead they have become leading killers of cats and dogs, and the animal-loving public unwittingly foots the bill through taxes and donations.”

Guess talking soft porn starlets into going nude for the cause wasn't enough for the snickering little frat boys at PETA HQ. San Angelo, Texas--A controversial new PETA ad in which parents urge their teenage daughter to become sexually active--a satirical take on the irresponsible behavior of people who allow their companion animals to breed--has been rejected by San Angelo TV stations in the wake of the scandal involving a polygamist sect in Eldorado. Allegations that adults at the Yearning for Zion Ranch forced young girls to have sex have given the ad a more somber meaning and made its message all the more relevant--and too racy to run.

The 30-second ad is intended to point out the absurdity of failing to spay and neuter companion animals by comparing it to the absurdity of urging a teenager to have sex and "pop out all the kids you can." The ad concludes, "Parents shouldn't act this way. Neither should people with dogs and cats. Always spay or neuter." One San Angelo TV station representative called the ad "pretty bold" but worried that viewers who don't pay close attention might not understand its tongue-in-cheek message.

With 7,759 unwanted animals euthanized in San Angelo in 2007, PETA believes that it is critical for Texans to spay and neuter their dogs and cats. One unspayed female cat can create 420,000 cats in just seven years, and an unneutered male cat can father limitless litters of kittens. Unwanted dogs and cats who never make it to animal shelters are abandoned and left to fend for themselves on the streets, where they are often subjected to cruelty and suffer from starvation, diseases, or injuries.

"PETA's 'Sex Talk' commercial takes irresponsible behavior to an absurd degree, but unfortunately, some people really don't take their responsibilities as parents or animal guardians seriously," says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. "The ad is shocking--but so is refusing to spay or neuter companion animals when millions of cats and dogs are dying for a lack of good homes."

Maggie Q gets 'nekkid' for PETA

Actress Maggie Quigley continues joins other 'b' listers and soft and hard core pornos in the latest ad from PETA, the porn shop posing as an animal rights group.

She's reputedly a vegetarian, “I feel better, I have more energy on and off the set, and I have the satisfaction of knowing that I’m doing something to help stop animal suffering.”

She was born to a Polish-Irish American father and a Vietnamese mother. Her father met her mother during the Vietnam War.

Maggie dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but modeled and found herself in the Hong Kong movie scene - eventually becoming a full-fledged superstar in Asia. She changed her name to the easily pronounceable "Maggie Q" (for the Chinese audience). She had a cameo in the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker smash hit Rush Hour 2 (2001) and was part of the supporting cast in Mission: Impossible III (2006), starring Tom Cruise.

After all that...nothing but 'nekkid' for PETA.

While other stars have taken to wearing expensive dresses on a red carpet during the the awards season, Alyssa Milano let the PETA Porn boys talk her into an outfit made out of lettuce, asparagus and other salad greens.

PETA's newest soft core campaign put the sometime soft core starlet in a gown designed by somebody named Mia Gyzander who evidently also supports a vegan cause.

The former star of television's 'Charmed' joins Pamela Anderson and some equally as shady ladies who have doffed their duds entirely or offered photos of themselves wearing outfits made of stuff that is normally seen at Ruby Tuesday's salad bar.

How Many Dogs Did PETA Kill in 2006?

Borrowed from another blog. It's refreshing to expose the hidden face of faux 'holier than thou" organizations.

For those who don't know, the PETA runs a notorious kill shelter in Norfolk, Virginia where for many years they have done nothing to encourage adoption, and instead marched almost every dog that was not claimed by an owner into the gas chamber.

Not content to kill nearly every dog that enters their building and that is not claimed within a few days, PETA actually sends its young zombie adherents out to other shelters in Virginia and North Carolina in order to round up more dogs to kill. What do they tell the shelters they are visiting? That they are going to "rescue" and "rehome" the dogs! What do they really do? They kill them on the side of the road and dump their bodies into dumpsters on their way home. Sound unbelievable? Read the stories here, here, here and here. Of course these dogs never make it into PETA's stastics data -- data that is only reported because it is required by the State of Virginia.

In 2006, PETA took in 1030 dogs surrendered by owners and 11 strays, with 2 dogs carried over from the last few days of the previous year. A total of 25 dogs were transferred to other facilities, 8 dogs were adopted out, and 988 were euthanized.

For those who want a short cut to the math, that means PETA killed 95 percent of the dogs admitted to their shelter, transferred 4 percent to somewhere else, and adopted out less than 1 percent. Of the remaining 6 dogs, three "died in the facility" (unexplained) and three others are mysteriously allocated to "miscellaneous," which may mean their disposition was rolled over into the next calendar year.

Total count: Since 1998, PETA's Norfolk "shelter" alone has killed 17,400 pets.

Roselyn Sanchez gives a cheap thrill to the boys at PETA

Sanchez, who's developed a small screen acting career, agreed to pose for some soft core porn aimed at the Latino market. She joins a distressingly long list of "B" listers and hard core babes who've grabbed at the brassy ring.

And given a cheap thrill to the long raincoat crowd.

For all those people who contribute their hard earned dollars to the cause...know that some of those bucks go to pay for this nonsense. Bottom line at PETA - Exploiting animals is bad; exploiting women is GOOD.

A decade or so ago, ABC’s NYPD Blue took the measure of their viewers’ sensitivity by showing David Caruso’s bare backside. Then they got downright offensive when they revaled Dennis Franz titanic tush. Another cast member, Chrlotte Ross, who had a little more to show, joined a group of "b" and "c" list actresses to bare it all for animals.

Ross exposed herself for PETA’s "Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" series, trying to hide behind a white rabbit. Grace Slick, where are you? The two-time Emmy-nominated actor creates an arresting image with an enticing message: "I’d rather show my buns than wear fur." Maybe she would have been better served hiding behind a bagel or two?

"In my TV job as a police detective, I have to deal with some pretty cold-hearted characters," said Ross. "But I can’t think of anything more heartless than to torment and kill animals in the name of fashion."

Ross joins the pantless ranks of Dominique Swain, Pamela Anderson, Kim Basinger, Sheryl Lee, and Christy Turlington, who’ve also gone soft core in PETA’s highly publicized "Naked" series.
